Up for sale is an absolute masterpiece of late 19th-century American clockmaking: a monumental Gothic Revival Cathedral Shelf Clock, attributed to the renowned E. Ingraham Company (circa 1870–1890).

Standing a commanding 24.5 inches tall, this clock features jaw-dropping architectural fretwork (scroll-saw art). Unlike standard, common mantel clocks of the era, this premium model boasts intricate openwork arches, circular geometric tracery, side buttresses, and a fully intact cathedral spire-and-cross crown. It is an exceptional cross-over piece perfect for serious antique horology collectors, Victorian design purists, or folk art enthusiasts.

Condition Report

• The Wood Case: This delicate wood case is in remarkable antique condition given its extreme fragility and age. The highly vulnerable upper spires, finials, and the top cross remain beautifully intact. The dark wood retains a rich, deep historic patina with minor age-appropriate wear that only enhances its authentic character.

• The Movement: Mechanically sold as-is / untested. The brass mechanical gears are completely intact inside. Because I do not have the horological expertise to properly calibrate it, I am listing it as a magnificent restoration or display piece.

A Few More Notes:

Found tucked away in an attic for untold numbers of decades a key is included which works eell (and is good-looking) although probably not the original key. The pendulum is includedvalso.

Not working that we know. We ran the clock without the pendulum hooked on for a brief second and it chimed on the half hour - but we have not been able to hook the pendulum on to see if it will run, or not. Possibly, a smaller pendulum may more easily fit and swing inside this case.
