There is a wonderful tiny boutique on a tiny street near St. Paul\'s in the Marais, Paris, where for decades I have visited every trip just to look at the shoe and boot snuffs (and their very elevated prices). One might think they\'re not as rare as they are - the gentleman who\'s kept the boutique for a lifetime is perhaps the single most prolific collector. Always fun to compare his with the ones I\'ve found over my long lifetime of collecting them. Based on price, you can buy mine and probably sell them to him and make a little bit in the transaction. He knows his price! But I digress. I\'m going to list 4 of these in coming weeks, each sold separately. In final photos, you can see how they group and compare - in case you must stop at just one. This is the only one without the bone carved portrait plaque. Often said these were popular crafts among Napoleonic and earlier prisoners of war, though most date 18th century, last half. I know they were popular through to c.1850s, as Grand Tour travelers found them charming. I must give you a date range that spans nearly a century, to be accurate. This one has wonderful pique and stringing, which is part of the artistry and appeal.Very good to excellent condition, 5\" in length and with lots of tiny brass \'pique\' trimming out the shoe or boot (sabot) snuff to look like the stylish shoes of their era. The lid is hinged well, opens and closes smoothly and perfectly - no warp nor damage. No chips or cracks. A little showpiece! The others will be offered spearately.

We most often use USPS for our shipping needs but will be happy to ship by another carrier if you prefer.

Insurance has been eliminated as an option by , forcing us sellers to either ship your items without insurance or assume that expense also. We always insure our items BUT, more importantly, pack them extremely well knowing that most are not replaceable. Again, damage in transit, while rare in our experience, is due to the postal agency handling and not caused by Antiques & Uncommon Treasure. Please remember that when leaving DSR ratings. Thanks!
Our shipping days are usually Monday and Friday though we do our best to ship within one to two days once paid. Otherwise, paid items will be shipped on the first shipping day after payment is received (except when special circumstances exist). We prefer to use USPS whenever possible, and require all packages to be insured. If you prefer another method of shipment, please mention it. We charge only actual expense of shipment/insurance, except in the case of larger items which must have special wood crates built. Wood crate charge, when applicable, is a flat $35.00 in addition to actual postage & insurance charges.

Sales tax is now calculated by based on your particular location. If you are within CA and are a dealer buying for resale, you must provide with your active resale certificate # and acknowledgment of intent to resell. No exceptions.
