Condition:
Antique pre-owned condition with age-related wear throughout. The plaster/composition reliefs show surface wear, discoloration, small losses/chips and areas of finish loss. The Mozart medallion has a visible hairline crack extending across the portrait, as shown closely in the photos. Black frames show scratches, rubbing, finish wear and accumulated patina. All three retain hanging rings on the reverse. Please examine all photos carefully; condition has been left as found and the pieces have not been restored.

Striking set of three antique portrait relief medallions depicting three important figures in European music and song:
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756–1791)
Gioachino Rossini (1792–1868)
Pierre-Jean de Béranger (1780–1857)
Each features a raised white plaster/composition profile portrait with the sitter’s name impressed above. The reliefs are mounted in matching black circular frames with concentric ring decoration and hanging hardware on the reverse.
The medallions measure approximately 4.5 inches (11.4 cm) in diameter, while each complete framed piece measures approximately 6 inches in diameter.
The portraits closely correspond in subject, format and approximately 11.5 cm size to French 19th-century portrait medallions associated with the A. Latry et Cie. / bois-durci portrait series. Period French portrait medallions were also produced in plaster. These examples appear to be plaster/composition rather than bois durci, and no Latry maker’s mark has been observed, so they are being sold as period French-style portrait medallions rather than represented as Latry-manufactured pieces.
The matching frames, aged surfaces and hanging hardware give the group wonderful antique character. Béranger is an especially unusual subject to encounter alongside the better-known Mozart and Rossini.
