Antique German Porcelain Beer Stein Occupational Electrician with Lithophane c.1900
:: This beer stein belongs to the \"occupational\" family of German beer vessels. It was made for an electrician who was very proud of his occupation. The steins of this sort were quite expensive at the time and could be compared with the regimental or \"Reservisten\" family of collectible antique beer steins. The stein was made around the 1890s - early 1900s of hard porcelain with enameled art and an ornate pewter lid. It is named for Paul Bochner and decorated with scenes of the electrician\'s work. The inscription at the bottom reads:
\"Hoch lebe die Electriciat!\" - (Long live the Electrician!)
The stein has lithophane—a picture in the bottom that can only be seen through the light. It shows two young women reading a letter - apparently, from a sweetheart of one of them. There is a signature on the bottom - \"Staedtler\" - this is the decorator\'s signature. Usually the blanc porcelain steins were purchased en masse by professional decorators and made in Regimentals, Occupationals or City souvenirs.
The stein is in excellent condition with only some minor age-related paint wear text fading. There are no chips, cracks, or repairs.
Please note—the Electrician Occupational steins are quite scarce. This profession was new at the time and quite rare, which actually determined the scarcity of Occupationals.
The stein is 9.5\" tall to the top of the finial, 0.5L capacity.
