Antique Haviland & Co. Limoges porcelain covered sugar bowl dating to the late 19th century. This lovely white porcelain piece has sculptural raised leaves, stems and rosebuds, each outlined and veined by hand in gold gilt. The pear-shaped body has a flared, gold-banded rim and two tall branch-form handles with gilt banding. The handles rise from leafy bud clusters on the shoulders and finish in curled tails. The domed lid has a molded full-rose finial with gold highlights, trailing raised leaves and buds, a gilt edge, and a small steam vent.
The base carries the green underglaze H&Co. factory mark and the blue circular "Haviland & Co Limoges" decorating mark. The same blue decorating mark appears on the underside of the lid. This mark pairing dates the piece to approximately 1879–1889. It would make an elegant addition to a Haviland or Limoges collection, a white-and-gold tea table, or a French country or Victorian display.
Measurements: Approximately 6 5/8" tall to the top of the finial with the lid in place. The bowl alone is approximately 5" tall to the rim.
Condition:Good antique condition. No chips or cracks observed. The gilt rim, handles and finial show light wear and small rubs consistent with age and use. The raised gilt leaf decoration remains bright overall. The interior has a small brownish stain mark near the bottom and a tiny rust-colored speck on the inner lid ledge. There are a couple of tiny white spots on the lid surface. The unglazed foot ring and lid flange show age-related darkening and grime. Minor firing specks and light surface marks are typical of 19th-century porcelain. Please review all detailed photos for the full condition.
