Based on my research and the inscription on the backside, I believe this card is aWWI historical artifact. Novelty cards of this sort were printed in the early 19th century. Furthermore thetranslation from French reads: “Thursday, Oct. Dear little Papa: I miss you and would very much like to see you. I hope the Germans don’t come to Paris. I kiss you a thousand times. Your little girl who loves you dearly. I thank you for your pretty card. — Violette”— likely refers to 1914 when the German army was approaching Paris at the start of WWI.
I am told thishand-tinted card —whichunfolds into an accordion strip of small photographic views St. Paul’s Cathedral, the Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey, the British Museum, the Horse Guards, the Royal Courts of Justice, the Royal Albert Hall, and Windsor Castle—was a popular novelty postcard format in Britain roughly 1905–1920s.
There are a few fold-out postcards out there, even vintage ones but I’ve never one like this. Because of its WWI relevance I’ve listed thecard as WWI Militaria (because I can find no other category that better describes the item).
