An authentic 19th-century English salt-glazed stoneware master ink bottle made by J. Bourne & Son at Denby Pottery near Derby for P. & J. Arnold of London.
Large master-size example measuring approximately 9” tall with a 3.5” base diameter. These larger stoneware bottles were used to hold and dispense writing ink into smaller inkwells.
The impressed maker’s and merchant’s marks remain visible on the front, including J. Bourne & Son, Denby Pottery, Near Derby, P. & J. Arnold, London.
Please note: the neck/shoulder area has an old repaired crack or break, with the repair line clearly visible. There are also chips/losses around the mouth and additional age-related surface wear. Please review all photos carefully.
Despite the old repair, this remains a wonderfully atmospheric survivor of 19th-century English utilitarian pottery, with beautiful salt-glazed color, texture, and history.
