Impressive antique wooden snatch block pulley featuring a substantial wood block, single large sheave, heavy iron swivel hook and opening/locking mechanism.This is an authentic working-era piece with deeply aged wood, oxidized iron and beautiful untouched patina developed through decades of use. The side-opening construction allowed a rope to be placed directly onto the sheave without feeding the entire length of rope through the block.Measures approximately 16\" overall.Wooden blocks of this construction were historically used in maritime and ship-rigging applications for lifting, hauling and changing the direction of working lines. Similar blocks were also used in other heavy-duty settings, so exact original application and provenance are unknown.The wood shows expected wear, checking, abrasions and surface loss from age and use. The iron hardware has extensive oxidation and surface rust consistent with its age.
