Antique Pach Bros Albany NY Large Cabinet Photo Men Group Portrait c1890 antique late-19th-century large-format mounted group photograph depicting approximately 17 young men posed together in formal attire. The photograph has the wonderful staged composition typical of college, fraternity, club, professional, or organizational portraits of the Victorian era.
The mount is marked “Pach Bros.” at the lower left and “Albany, N.Y.” at the lower right. Pach Brothers was a noted American photographic studio particularly associated with institutional, school, college and society portraiture.
The unidentified group is exceptionally well photographed, with excellent facial detail, period hairstyles, suits, waistcoats, watch chains and other late Victorian clothing. The elaborate painted studio backdrop adds considerable visual interest.
Approximate overall size: 14” wide × 10.75” high.
The photograph is mounted on its original dark photographer’s board. Condition shows expected age and handling wear, including edge and corner wear, scuffs and surface marks to the mount. The photograph itself remains quite sharp and presents very well for its age. Reverse has wear and marks but no readily visible identification of the individuals.
A particularly nice piece for collectors of Pach Brothers photography, Albany New York history, Victorian photography, college or fraternity memorabilia, men’s fashion, genealogy, or 19th-century American photography.
