Exceptional antiquePima or Pomo miniature coiled basket with turquoise blue glass beads.
A particularly appealing example of historic Native American miniature basketry, combining extremely fine coiling, geometric decoration, glass-bead embellishment and a remarkable scale of only 2.25 inches across. The small bowl is remarkably tightly and evenly coiled, with a warm natural-colored field worked with contrasting dark geometric elements forming a human figure.The basket is finished with a dark wrapped rim ornamented and a series of vivid turquoise-blue glass beads.
Museum and gallery records have attributed similar examples of tightly woven polychrome beaded basketry to both Pomo and Pima (Akimel O'odham) tribes. This basket was acquired from a reputable high end Native American art house among a collection of miniature baskets featuring Paiute, Navajo horsehair, Pima and Pomo examples.

Condition
Very good antique condition. A number of the original blue glass beads are missing from the rim, as clearly visible in the photographs. Thewoven rim itself appears intact. There is minor age-related wear, including at the center/start on the underside. No major structural break or unraveling observed.
The missing beads have been left exactly as found; no attempt has been made to replace them or otherwise restore the basket.
