Antique pocket drinking cup.This antique pocket drinking cup by Meriden Britannia Co. is a mid-to-late 19th-century telescoping, collapsible cup made for travelers, Victorians, and Civil War soldiers. The telescoping rings of the cup are typically crafted from Britannia metal (a tin-antimony-copper alloy, often silver-plated), while the protective outer container is a japanned (lacquered) tin case. The lid of the japanned tin case features gold-stenciled text that says “POCKET DRINKING CUP - MERIDEN BRITANNIA CO. - MERIDEN CONN.” Cupand pouch are unmarked. Believe this dates to the 1860’s. Tin measures 2-3/4'' diameter, 1-1/2'' high and cup is 3'' high when opened. This is very good antique condition with some normal wear and slight soiling to pouch.
