Antique Sioux (Dakota/Lakota) Beaded Pipe Bag from circa 1890-1910. The bag is made from native tanned hide (body may be buffalo), still all supple, sewn with sinew and thread. The bag seems originally to have been longer. The leather strap is likely a later addition. At the throat some sewing is done with a sewing machine.
Beadwork is sinew sewn, all Venetian beads, in wonderful Sioux (Dakota/Lakota) designs in beautiful colors, including white, light blue, dark blue, rose-white-heart, medium green, and translucent amber.
Size of the bag is approximately 16.5" x 6.5", with the beaded panel being about 8" x 6.5"
