Antique Victorian Staffordshire pottery figure depicting a greyhound or whippet carrying a hare in its mouth. The dog stands beside a molded tree trunk on a naturalistic oval base decorated in green, brown and cream. Hand-painted facial features and black collar.This traditional English sporting or coursing subject dates stylistically to approximately the mid-to-late 19th century, circa 1850–1870. The figure is unmarked, as is common with many Staffordshire pottery figures.
