An exquisite, highly collectible authentic Victorian trinket / pill box dating from the mid-to-late 19th century.
The hinged lid is set with a genuine hand-cut and polished oval banded agate / green moss onyx cabochon, featuring striking natural concentric banding and translucent earthy hues. The stone is mounted within a twisted rope filigree bezel.
The metal body features deeply embossed foliate scrollwork along the sides, and the underside displays a magnificent, crisp high-relief acanthus scroll and floral repoussé engraving. The interior retains its original antique pale wash/finish. The box closes neatly with its original front shell-form thumb tab.
