Rare antique First World War devotional cross, handmade from repurposed historical metal components and decorated with a traditional religious figure.

The cross is constructed from tubular metal sections with pointed decorative terminals. Behind the cross is a pierced foliate or sunburst ornament, while the separately made figure is secured to the front with small metal fasteners.

A suspension loop at the top indicates that the cross was intended to be hung or carried as a devotional object, possibly by a soldier or military family. The craftsmanship and use of recycled period materials are characteristic of religious folk art produced during or shortly after the First World War.

A distinctive and collectible example of early twentieth-century religious folk art, combining traditional Christian symbolism with repurposed period materials.
