Antique L.E. Waterman’s 42 Safety Pen w/ Rare “18K” and “99” and Globe Logo Nib - Unrestored

A rare and beautiful, over 100 year-old, Waterman 42 fountain pen by the legendary L.E. Waterman company with an even rarer and factory original Waterman’s Ideal New York Solid 18K Gold #2 stub nib. ALL original parts are on and have no cracks or damage (only normal wear; chasing design, company logo and info, “42” still legible on the barrel) except that nib has damage at the tines (bent) so it won’t write unless repaired, but is very unique and special in that it is 18K gold (stamped, see photo) rather than the common 14K—the vast majority of vintage and antique Waterman fountain pen nibs from the classic American era (late 19th through early 20th centuries) were made of 14K gold, making 18K variants more specialized or tied to specific European/export markets.

The nib also has a vertical number stamped — “9 9” (see photo) and just as special is the stamped Waterman company Globe logo (see photo) with what appears to be an L and E on the left and right of it. I’ve seen many antique and vintage Waterman nibs and never seen so many unique stamps on it. I tried to get the best photos I could. The pen also has a clip on it branded “MATADOR”. I gently opened the pen which was tight, in order to see the content and the nib but didn’t clean it so the threads are a little dusty and tight so I didn’t screw the top of the pen barrel back all the way down as you see in the photos in order to avoid any damage and of course to leave it to the professionals. Once clean and restored especially the nib, it will be a great addition to a fountain pen collection!

It will be shipped safely and well-packed in the case pictured. Feel free to ask any questions. As always, we ship safely and quickly, thanks and good luck!
