Antique Wooden Bachelors Cigar Box A P Petit Habana Thomas Shannon Lithograph For Sale

This is a very rare antique wooden cigar box originally manufactured by A.P. Petit & Co. for the "Bachelors" brand line. The top lid is stamped with an oval emblem reading "Thomas F. Shannon de A.P. Petit & Co. Habana". The box was produced for 50 cigars under Factory No. 612 in the 1st District of New York. This box dates back to the late 19th century / early 20th century.

There is an interior lithograph label for "Thomas F. Shannon" by permission, produced by A.P. Petit & Co. It features a detailed portrait illustration of Thomas F. Shannon with medals on his uniform inside the lid. It includes decorative musical motifs (a lyre and sheet music). There is also a detailed interior lithograph flap.

Condition:

• Exterior: The wood top retains clear branding, but the paper lithograph borders and tax stamps are partially worn / torn, which is typical for its age. The box shows notable wear, with flaking paper borders, split edges, and minor wood staining. This level of cosmetic degradation is expected for its age. There is a small nail that was previously used to secure the lid shut.

• Interior: The lithograph has visible water staining, foxing, and minor fraying around the outer edges of the white paper lining. The central chromolithograph portrait and text remain vivid and sharp. The detailed interior lithograph flap has some foxing and a few tears.
