Here is an antique commercial butcher/chef knife honing steel with wonderful documented family provenance included. Marked R.C.Co - Robeson Cutlery Company of New York
It measures 17\" from tip of the steel to end of wooden handle. Not including hanging loop.
Provenance typed note is dated Sept 14th, 1960 and states that the knife sharpener was owned by Vincent James Sisser (1856-1926) and formerly hung in the kitchen of the River View Hotel in Raritan New Jersey which he once owned. The card further states that the sharpener was approx 60 years old at the time of note, which suggests it is from around 1900. It also suggests that it was passed down through the Sisser family.
This item shows age related wear and wooden handle has a burn mark. This off course makes sense if used in a hotel kitchen.
