Beautiful and unusual antique set of six Boizenburg German ceramic decorative tiles, believed to date to approximately the 1920s/early 20th century. Each tile features a colorful depiction of a woman dressed in a traditional Danish regional folk costume.
The six tiles represent Sønderjylland, Ringkøbing, Fanø, Fyn, Hedebo, and Bornholm, with each region identified in script beneath the figure.
The backs bear a faint impressed “500 Boizenburg BB Germany” marking, associated with the historic Boizenburger Fliesenfabrik of Germany. The tiles have ribbed backs and retain remnants of old mounting material/adhesive, indicating they were likely displayed or mounted at one time.
Each tile measures approximately 3 1/4 inches square.
Wonderful aged character throughout, including mottling, discoloration, surface wear, crazing/marks, and remnants of previous mounting consistent with their age. Please examine all photographs closely for exact condition. They have not been aggressively cleaned, preserving the original surfaces and markings.
