Antique snuff Box, 18thC. For Sale

Here we present a quite uniquely hand carved Snuff box in the shape of an ankle boot from the 18thC It is carved from walnut or other dark wood and inlaid with a more golden ,chip carved wood. The toe inlay is carved in the shape of a splayed beaver, symbol of wealth and wisdom in Scotland (and extinct since the 17th c.) There is chip carved arched strips inlaid on both sides of the boot, and an inlaid heelstrap.The lid is carved from the same wood as the boot, inlaid with Copper wire in the monogram"SB"on two mirrored wings on the lid.The lid is and hinged to the body of the boot with a silver hinge. See photos. The sole of the boot is embellished with copper nails in the shape an arrow..The heel has nine copper railheads. The hinged lid opens to expose the carved inner well that probably held the snuff, or maybe even castoreum. It is in excellent condition. Write with any questions.GIN:2.9
