Up for sale is a rare antique small ball-shaped glass lamp shade, dating from the 1930s Art Deco period. The shade features a classic spherical globe form, a wonderful example of Machine Age interior design.
Attributed to Johann Loetz Glassworks, the shade is made of blown cased glass with two layers, featuring an opaline white inner layer and a beautiful beige-mustard outer color. The reversed fitter rim is characteristic of early shades of this period and supports its age.
The glass has uranium content and produces an amazing glow under UV / black light. It has been tested under both 365 nm and 395 nm UV light.
The shade is in excellent condition, without chips or damage. Found at an estate sale in Vienna.
