Vintage from the 19th century, an antique navy and beige jacquard coverlet that incorporates a medallion pattern with floral border made of cotton and wool.
Woven by A. Wolf in 1851, this coverlet is reversible, woven in 2 panels and center seamed. Both sides and bottom are self-fringed with a hand-turned rolled edge at top. Navy fringe on both sides and beige along the bottom, with most intact, though missing a few. Two corner signature blocks intact. There are a few small reddish spots, though overall in good condition with no fading or discoloration and would be a beautiful display piece in any space.
Adam Wolf was born in PA in 1816 but was actively weaving in Ohio by 1849. The U.S. census identifies Wolf as a coverlet weaver in Blooming Grove, Ohio (Richland County).
This coverlet was found in Berks County, PA and has been lovingly stored and cared for, for the last 20 years.
