As of 2019, it had about 7,859 undergraduate and graduate students. Adelphi University's history begins in Brooklyn in 1863 as Adelphi Academy, a preparatory school. It evolved into Adelphi College in 1896, receiving its charter from the State of New York. Initially located in Brooklyn, it moved to Garden City in 1929 and became Adelphi University.- 1863: Adelphi Academy founded as a preparatory school in Brooklyn.- 1869: Adelphi Academy incorporated.- 1893: Charles H.
