You are buying a beautiful Bulova Westminster Whittington wood mantel clock that is battery operated. 1 AA operates the quartz movement and 2 AA batteries operate the sound. Unfortunately the holder for the 2 AA batteries is broken so that will need to be replaced. I direct wired 2 AA batteries and the chimes work fine The face is protected by glass and the back has a removeable piece of plexiglass. There is a metal trim along the top and bottom.
