In May, 1861 The 19th New York Infantry aka \" the Cayuga Regiment\" enlisted at Seneca Falls for 3 months service. In August it was converted to 3 year service as the 3rd NY Light Artillery ,and 200 of the men mutinied, but most eventually returned to serve under command of Colonel James Ledlie, (a notorious drunk later dismissed from the service following the Battle of the Crater). In 1862 Company C of the 3rd NY Light Artillery was assigned to the Carolinas and by the end of the War suffered over 300 losses from fever, mainly at New Bern North Carolina. An Original Civil War Return for Company C , 19th NYSM Vols, for July 1861 at Camp Cayuga, Washington DC ,signed by Company Commander Captain James E Ashcorft, listing it\'s original regimental commander as Colonel James Clark. The Return lists numbers of men present, absent, sick, etc, totaling 70 men, also naming it\'s officers, deserters and one man drowned in Rock Creek, Washington, DC.2pp 10 x 16\" w folds, age stains, edge wear, Camp Cayuga was located in what is now the historic Blockhouse Point Park, Montgomery County, Maryland, a strategic supply and forwarding area for the Union Army..
