CIVIL WAR 4TH GEORGIA CSA 1861 CAMP JACKSON VIRGINIA ARMY PROVISIONS For Sale

The 4th Georgia Infantry was a notable combat unit, serving from 1861 to the War\'s End. The regiment saw a lot of action, suffering especially heavy casualties at the Battle of Antietam in Jackson\'s Command, at Gettysburg and the Wilderness, and Winchester, and Lee\'s final offensive at Fort Stedman, 1865. An Original Civil War Confederate Provisions Return for Company I, composed of men of Macon , Georgia commanded by Captain Samuel M. Prothro and issued at Camp Jackson for the 1st week of September (1861) when the 4th was in at Camp Jackson, near Richmond. The Return is signed by Lt William H Willis of the 4th Georgia. Captain Willis who took command of the 4th at Sharpsburg, MD, was WIA at Chancellorsville recovered and commanded 4th Georgia, Dole\'s Georgia Brigade at the Battle of Gettysburg, . In 1864 he was promoted to Colonel of the 4th, and was wounded again in The Wilderness. He survived the War and is buried at Oglethorpe Cemetery, Macon.
