Vinegar Valentines marked by \"CJH\" or Charles Howard are late 19th- to early 20th-century mean or comic greeting cards featuring exaggerated caricatures. These satirical cards were used to send sharp insults about a recipient\'s character flaws, job, or appearance. Supposedly, these prints were hand-colored.These belonged to my late grandmother. Someone in the family appears to have glued the caricatured prints to sheets of lined notebook paper, then to a stiffer notebook page or divider.Look closely at the pictures, the larger ones suffered a good deal of wear. All of them have discoloration, edge wear, and fold marks. These could still be attractive framed. Largest picture is approximately 20” x 9” (the high flyer), next is 14” x 10” (your picture!); the rest all close to 9.5” x 7.5”.
