Vintage Latin American Colombian Folk Art - Barniz De Pasto - traditional Mopa Mopa technique - Duck Figure - Hand Carved, Artisan Made, Hand decorated using the applied Mopa Mopa resin technique. This unique pre-Hispanic craft involves harvesting the buds of the Elaeagia pastoensis shrub, boiling the resin into thin, stretchy sheets, dyeing them, and layering them onto a carved wooden base to create intricate, jewel-toned designs.Measures approx 5" long x 2" wide x 3" tall. Excellent condition. This belonged to my mothers estate. She was from Colombia. Not sure when she bought this. Most likely between 1970-1980s.
