You are offerding on a complete set of six (6) collector plates from the Frances Hook “Legacy” Series – a limited-edition collection produced on fine Edwin M. Knowles China in the mid-1980s. This series is the only collection to preserve the significant works of American portraitist Frances Hook on fine china.. Each plate features a tender portrait of a child, capturing moments of childhood emotion and wonder in Hook’s signature soft pastel style. (Frances Hook has been called “the Berta Hummel of America” for her ability to portray children’s expressions, and these plates beautifully reflect that legacy.)
Included Plates (Complete Series – First issue in the Legacy Series (1985). A wide-eyed child discovering the world’s beauty (Plate No. ___, Bradex – Second issue (1985). A contemplative portrait capturing a child’s – Third issue (1986). A scene of curious – Fourth issue (1986). A touching image conveying youthful – Fifth issue (1986). A plate depicting awe and – Sixth and final issue (1987). A child eagerly anticipating – a poignant finale to the series.
Each 8½-inch plate is crafted of fine porcelain and individually numbered on the back, confirming its place in the limited edition. They were produced for only 100 firing days each, after which the molds were broken.collectorpoint.com – ensuring the edition’s exclusivity. Each plate’s issue number and the Bradex number are indicated on the reverse, and matching Certificates of Authenticity (COAs) are included for all six plates. The COAs (from Knowles/Bradford Exchange) certify the plate number and edition size, adding provenance for discerning collectors.
Condition: All plates are in excellent, mint condition with no chips, cracks, or crazing. They have been kept in their original boxes with protective materials. (Each plate appears “new in box” (NIB) – some were only removed briefly for inspection/photos, if at all.) The artwork on each plate is vivid and unfaded, and the gold-rim accents (if any) are intact. Note: Because these have been stored in their boxes for decades, expect only minimal signs of handling on the packaging. The plates themselves are pristine. (If any plate was ever displayed, it was handled with care; there are no visible wear marks). Collectors will appreciate that all original packaging and papers are present – a rare find, since many sets on the market lack boxes or COAs.
Collector Appeal & Historical Note: This Frances Hook Legacy Series was issued in the mid-1980s as a posthumous tribute to Frances Hook’s beloved art (Frances Hook (1913–1983) was renowned for her portraits of children). Crafted by the Edwin M. Knowles China Co., the series was marketed via the Bradford Exchange to preserve Hook’s “significant works” for collectors. Each plate’s imagery reflects everyday childhood moments – making this set a heartwarming addition to any decorative plate collection. Whether you’re an art plate collector, a fan of Frances Hook’s work, or you cherish nostalgic childhood themes, this complete set is a treasure. The plates display beautifully as a group and come with the assurance of authenticity and original packaging.
