Issue #3 Condition Notes
Issue #3 is the only book keeping this set from being a truly exceptional high-grade run.
The comic is remarkably clean overall, but along the far right edge of the front cover there is a narrow line approximately 4mm wide running vertically from top to bottom.
After extensive examination, I can honestly say:
β’ I do not know exactly what the substance is
β’ It is not sticky
β’ It does not appear to be a stain that penetrates the cover
β’ It does not extend to the back cover
β’ It does not affect interior pages
β’ It appears to be surface-level only
β’ The texture differs slightly from the surrounding cover
Most importantly:
I carefully pressed and cleaned the entire set, including issue #3.
The line is dramatically improved from where it started.
I stopped cleaning because I did not want to risk causing permanent damage to the book.
Based on the improvement already achieved, I genuinely believe that a skilled comic cleaner or restoration specialist may be able to improve it further, and possibly eliminate it entirely.
π Potential Opportunity for Collectors
One reason I find this set particularly interesting is that issue #3 appears to have a problem that is likely surface-level.
If a collector with advanced cleaning experience is able to remove the remaining residue, you could realistically be looking at a set where all five books fall into the 9.4 to 9.8 range.
Of course, no guarantees can be made, but the potential is certainly there.
