Only 8 D-1-W Variants Ever Built, 1930sDESCRIPTIONAn original period photograph of the Davis D-1-W NC14530, a genuinely scarce Golden Age parasol wing sport monoplane built by the Davis Aircraft Corporation of Richmond, Indiana.Davis produced several variants of its D-1 sport plane through 1929 and 1930, and the Warner Scarab powered D-1-W was the rarest of them all, only 8 were ever completed, each one converted from an existing D-1-K airframe rather than built new.This print shows the aircraft on the field with its pilot standing alongside in full period flying gear, leather helmet, goggles pushed up, jacket, and lace up boots, capturing a real day at a small grass airfield in the mid 1930s.The Warner Scarab radial engine, cabane strut bracing, and tandem open cockpits are all clearly visible. NC14530 carries construction number 703 and was registered to owners D. Rinker and T. The image is sharp and well exposed with strong contrast throughout. Corners show the gentle rounding typical of a photograph this age, and there is light natural curl consistent with an unmounted period print that was never laid down or matted. No tears, holes, or heavy creasing are visible. The verso carries a period ink caption in the upper corner. Ships in a protective acid free sleeve.
