This is a silver gelatin photograph that is unmounted and is approximately 9½ x 7 inches (240x180mm).

It shows a man paddling a traditional coracle on a river. He is seated on a wooden plank inside the small, round boat, using a single paddle. He is wearing a flat cap, a waistcoat over a light-coloured shirt with rolled-up sleeves, and dark trousers. In the background, a large, arched iron bridge spans the river, with trees and a building visible on the far bank. The bridge is visually identifiable as the Iron Bridge in Shropshire.

The reverse has handwritten text at the top reading "1068-82". Along the bottom edge, another handwritten annotation reads "R General - Historical - Britain - Coracles."
