In daylight, this Sterling Hill specimen is a bright white calcite mass densely studded with lustrous black franklinite crystals across every face. The crystals are well formed and evenly distributed, giving the piece sharp salt-and-pepper contrast before any lamp touches it.Under shortwave, the calcite floods the entire specimen with vivid red-orange while the franklinite crystals stay completely dark, punching out as crisp black polka dots across the glowing surface. The effect is bold and graphic, one of the cleanest two-mineral contrast displays the locality produces. Under longwave the calcite holds a strong hot pink-red with the same sharp franklinite contrast, so the piece reads well on either lamp.⸻🌍 Composition
