It can be really hard to date a quilt when the fabrics are solid. So then you go by the pattern or sometimes simply the feel of the quilt. After you handle enough quilts you start to get an idea when it was made. This one has wonderful antique patterns so if you just went by the patterns you might think it was around 1900. But you can see how bright and crisp the fabrics are and know that it's made more recent. But the real tell for me is there is a white on white floral pattern used in the largest tulips and star block in the center. I had that exact same fabric when I was making quilts in the early 1990s. I actually had a big piece of it because they also sold this one as a solid piece for a quilt backing so you didn't have to piece your backing. So I'd say this was made in the 1990s by a very experienced quilter making patterns from earlier days and they did an excellent job of it. The stitching is done very well. A lot of it is applique work and done perfectly.
I think if I were to keep this I would take all the blocks apart and give them a setting they deserve. I could probably make two quilts out of this top by resetting them with sashing and a border. It would be a lot of fun to do!
Measures 64 by 74. I don't see any issues at all. There might be a loose thread or two but that would be expected in any quilt top.Quilt top only--no backing or batting. Needs to be finished.
