Glyptodontsare large, extinct, herbivorous mammals that first appeared 38 million yearsago and went extinct at the end of the Ice Age 12 thousand years ago. They hadshells covering their body made of interlocking plates forming a strong armormuch like their modern cousins, armadillos. Unlike armadillos, they could notroll into a ball. Glyptodonts were also MUCH larger. Some species grew tolengths of over 12 feet long, 6 feet tall, and over two and a half tons!
