Theshort (26 April – 12 July 1859) but bloody war started after Austria invadedPiedmont-Sardinia on 26 April 1859. France was an ally of Sardinia and declaredwar on Austria, and the climactic battle of Solferino resulted in theinspiration for the International Red Cross. The medal is in better than veryfine to near extremely fine condition; on a correct replacement ribbon andcorrectly mint-marked on the reverse suspension knob. 2) Campaign Medal for theFranco-Prussian War 1870-1871. Campaign medal awarded to the French soldiersthat fought Prussia and the various German states in the disastrousFranco-Prussian War.
