Georg vonTiesenhausen was a prominent NASA scientist who made significant contributionsto the space program. He was born on May 18, 1914, in Riga, Latvia, and came tothe United States in 1953 as part of Operation Paperclip, where he joinedWernher von Braun\'s team at the United States Army and later at NASA.
At NASA, vonTiesenhausen worked on various spaceflight programs, including the Apolloprogram, which led to the first human landing on the Moon.
He is particularly known for designing thefirst complete concept of the Lunar Roving Vehicle, which was used on the Moonduring the Apollo 15, 16, and 17 missions.
Von Tiesenhausen alsodeveloped the first mobile launch facilities for the Saturn V rocket andcontributed to the design of space tether missions.
He continued to work for NASA well into theSpace Shuttle era and was a frequent volunteer at the U.S. Space & RocketCenter in Huntsville, Alabama, where he lectured students about spaceexploration.
