This was challenge that Houdini accepted that almost defeated him. Houdini wouldn't quit. He soldiered on and eventually freed himself.
Here is the back story:
The Mirror handcuffs were made by a Birmingham blacksmith with a lock he spent five years perfecting and believed “no mortal man” could pick.
It took Harry one hour and ten minutes, but he emerged Triumphant.
The crowd went crazy, carrying Houdini on their shoulders!
