Description: This popular American poet, a professor of modern languages at Bowdoin College and Harvard University, is best remembered for \"The Song of Hiawatha\" (1855) and \"Paul Revere\'s Ride\" (1863) and other classics.

Attractive \"Yours truly\" and signature, dated by him 1874, on a 4½\" X 2½\" slip, n.d. Very good. Slight show-through from small mounting traces on verso, but overall a lovely example, penned large and bold. Accompanied by a superb 9½\" X 8\" sepia-tone heavy stock book photogravure (Elson & Co.), undated but late 19th century. A charming image of Longfellow\'s study -- a delightfully cluttered den with fireplace, bookcases, books stacked about, portraits of Hawthorne and Emerson on the walls, etc.
