The rare book Hermann Göring: Werk und Mensch is the official biography of one of the most powerful men of the Third Reich, first published in 1937.
Author: Erich Gritzbach, a high-ranking member of Göring\'s staff and SS-Oberführer.
Publisher: Zentralverlag der NSDAP (Franz Eher Nachf.), Munich.
Contents: The book is divided into two parts - the first is devoted to Göring\'s \"work\" (his political functions, the building of the Luftwaffe and the four-year plan), the second depicts his \"human\" side as a friend, artist and hunter.
Historical significance
The book served as a powerful promotional tool to celebrate and idealize Göring\'s personality. It contains over 50 period photographs that capture him in official state functions, hunting and in private life. It became a bestseller in its time not only in Germany, but was also translated into other languages.
Today, the book is studied by historians as an example of the Nazi cult of personality and is available in archives.
