Historic New Orleans Roofing Slate 200+ Yrs Old Vieux Carre Orleans St ArtAccording to the original label (produced in 1987), the slate was mined in Pennsylvania, transported down the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers, and used as roofing material in New Orleans following the Good Friday fire of March 21, 1788. The label states that each slate was individually hand shaped and that this example came from an old New Orleans building.
