WOULD YOU LIKE TO OWN A PIECE OF SALEM, MASSACHUSETTS Halloween HISTORY?Here is a rare opportunity to own an authentic piece of Salem Haunted Happenings history.This vintage Salem Haunted Happenings banner was designed in 1982 and features the iconic flying witch and moon design implemented during the early years of Salem’s famous Halloween celebration.But what makes this particular banner truly special is its provenance.
The artwork was designed by my husband, Chuck Carey, while he was working as an art director for McDougall and Associates, an advertising agency in Salem, Massachusetts.
Chuck received this banner as a complimentary piece because of his involvement with the Haunted Happenings project. We have owned and carefully preserved this banner for nearly 45 years.
The connection to Chuck’s work is not simply family history. Salem State University Archives documents Chuck Carey as the art director responsible for the Haunted Happenings logo in its archival material from the early years of the event.
AN EXCEPTIONALLY PRESERVED EXAMPLE. See photos for condition.Unlike the Haunted Happenings banners that were displayed outdoors throughout Salem and exposed to the weather, this particular banner was kept by the designer and was never displayed outdoors by our family.It has been stored for decades and retains its striking original colors and graphics.There are folds and wrinkles from long-term storage, but overall the banner is remarkably well preserved.
