Jacob Perkins House | Old Perkins House80 East StreetIpswich, Massachusetts
This antique photo features some historical information on the back that was written by George A. Perkins (Salem, MA) in July 1882. The house is identified as the Old Perkins House that was likely built in 1669 or 1670 by Jacob Perkins, the son of the elder John Perkins. The house was in ruins at the time and was described this way: "Only half of the building is now standing, the western half was blown down a few years ago; the part now standing will fall before many days."
After doing some additional research on this home, I was happy to discover it was saved. It's been expanded and modernized over the decades, but retains it's historic frame and character.
The photo measures 3 11/16" x 4 7/16" and is mounted to a 4 1/4" x 6 1/2" card. The edges of the card are beveled and trimmed in gold that's still in nice condition, except for wear to the corners. Overall discoloration from age.
