Description Truly one of a kind, this is a exquisitely crafted Japanese lacquer bowl with a lid. It was made in the 70s, by InuiShikki, an established Kyoto lacquer ware dealer.
The bowl is called \"kashi-ki,\" and is used for traditional formal Japanese tea ceremonies. It is a perfect coffee table decoration as well.
The bowl is probably synthetic material made out of wood, not a solid curbed wood, in order to add durability for dry climates.
The Makie (decorative art method for lacquer ware) is done by a highly skilled craftsman in Kyoto, using 18K gold powder. You may see the strokes of a fine brush; some areas, like the rice grains depicted on the lid, are coated several times to achieve depth.
