Offered is a large vintage hand-painted ceramic Bengal tiger sculpture/statue measuring 18.5" long x 9" high x 7" wide and weighing about 5 1/2 lb. This impressive wildlife figure depicts a stalking tiger with an open mouth and detailed hand-painted striping, mounted on an integrated faux wood-grain base. The tiger displays beautifully with vivid orange coloration, bold black striping, green eyes, and a strong walking pose that captures the power of the animal. Its substantial size gives it excellent shelf, mantel, or display-cabinet presence and makes it a standout piece among vintage wildlife figurines.
The underside is marked "EUR-O-CON © MOLD," identifying the piece as having been cast from an original EUR-O-CON copyrighted ceramic mold. Research indicates that EUR-O-CON produced ceramic slip-casting molds used during the mid-to-late twentieth-century hobby ceramics era, similar to better-known companies such as Holland and Atlantic Mold of the same period. Surviving EUR-O-CON molds and finished pieces are encountered far less frequently than those from the larger hobby-ceramics firms, making examples such as this a rare and interesting find for collectors of vintage ceramic art and wildlife décor.
This particular example was produced in fired earthenware using the traditional slip-casting process. The hollow construction, mold mark, kiln-fired ceramic body, and hand-painted finish are all consistent with vintage studio or hobby ceramic production. Pieces cast from ceramic hobby molds were often individually finished and painted, giving each example its own character.
Condition: This piece has been well cared for over the years. It is in exceptional condition for being over 50 years old. There are no chips, cracks, or paint wear. The colors of the tiger have remained vibrant and glossy. Please review all photos, as they are integral to the description.
