Large hand-carved Inuit stone polar bear sculpture attributed to noted Inuit artist Paulassie Eqilaq (b. 1934) of Sanikiluaq, Belcher Islands, Nunavut, Canada.
Eqilaq is a documented Inuit sculptor and carver associated with the Sanikiluaq / Belcher Islands artistic community. His registered artist disc number is E9-142, and his sculptures have been exhibited and offered through established Canadian Inuit-art galleries and sale houses.
This substantial polar bear measures approximately 10.5 inches tall and features a polished green-toned stone body with contrasting dark details. The sculpture is signed/marked on the underside; please refer closely to the photographs of the markings.
Paulassie Eqilaq's work is represented in documented Inuit-art exhibitions and collections, and examples of his sculpture have appeared at Canadian sale houses including Waddington's.

Eqilaq is known primarily for stone sculpture depicting Arctic animals and figures. His work has been included in exhibitions devoted to Belcher Islands sculpture and Canadian Inuit art, and examples are documented in institutional and private collections.
