A striking commemorative brass ashtray produced for the 1932 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, California.
The sculptural design features the profile of a Native American chief wearing a feathered headdress, rising above a geometric ashtray base decorated with a relief image of the Olympic rings and laurel branches.
The base is inscribed: “FIRST AMERICAN,” “OLYMPIC U.S.A. GAMES,” and “LOS ANGELES 1932 CALIFORNIA.”
The underside bears the engraved maker and copyright information:
“DESIGN
COPYRIGHT 1932
WALTER J. LUMBLEAU
1008 SO. FREMONT AVE.
LOS ANGELES”
The piece retains an aged surface with extensive patination, oxidation, scratches, and areas of wear and loss to the silver-coloured finish, exposing the brass beneath. Please refer to the photographs for a full assessment of condition.
