This was an estate find from a mid-century home. I did a little research and believe these may be the 1950s J. Fred Muggs ceramic monkey figurines made in Japan. However, neither figurine has a marking that specifically identifies them as J. Fred Muggs or states that they were made in Japan, so I cannot guarantee this identification. I found examples during my research that appear very similar.
Both monkeys have remnants of stickers/labels underneath them that appear to have been mostly peeled away. I also see identification numbers underneath their feet: one is marked 4572 and the other is marked 4573.
These appear to be made of ceramic/porcelain material. The clothing has more of a ceramic feel, while the hands, feet, and heads have more of a porcelain-like feel.
There is crazing present on both figurines, along with other signs of age and wear. I also noticed what may be a small paint chip and a mark on one of the sleeves. There may be other minor imperfections consistent with their age and vintage ceramic construction.
I am not sure if anything is missing from these figurines, so please carefully review all of the pictures. What you see in the pictures is what you will receive.
