Lot 2 Vintage Your United Nations Souvenir Guide Books 1957 1960 Mid CenturyUp for sale is a fantastic lot of two vintage editions of Your United Nations: The Official Souvenir Guide Book. Published by the United Nations Department of Public Information in New York, these mid-century booklets offer a beautiful historic look at the early days of the UN headquarters.This lot includes:
- The 1957 Eighth Edition (59 pages). Features an aerial/evening photo cover with a gold embossed UN emblem and an original 50-cent cover price. This edition includes a printed Word of Welcome and signature from the historic UN Secretary-General Dag Hammarskjold.
- The 1960 Tenth Edition (61 pages). Features the iconic daytime photography cover of the Secretariat building with flags flying and a 25-cent cover price.
Both books are filled with wonderful mid-century graphic design, typography, map layouts, and official photography. Notable photography credits inside include the legendary portraitist Karsh of Ottawa, J. Alex Langley, Ali Nekunam, and the Bettmann Archive.Condition:
Both booklets are in good, well-preserved vintage condition. The covers show vibrant colors. There is some mild, natural yellowing to the pages from age. The binding on the 1957 edition shows some shelf wear along the spine edge and some rubbing/scuffing at the top and bottom corners. (See Pictures) The interior pages remain flat, clean, and firmly attached with no loose pages, missing pages or water damage.
