Charming group of 8 original antique/vintage romantic and courtship postcards, primarily dating from the early 1900s through the 1910s. A wonderful assortment of Edwardian-era romance, including courting couples, kissing sweethearts, sentimental verses and humorous romantic scenes.Several cards are German printed, and the group includes both posted and unused examples. One is clearly marked Th. E. L. Theochrom-Serie No. 1210/55, Printed in Germany. Theochrom cards are associated with German color postcard production of the early 20th century and are collected for their richly printed romantic and genre scenes. Included are:* “The hours I spent with thee, dear heart…” — sentimental romantic verse with floral decoration and inset courting scene. Posted 1912 with stamp and handwritten message.
* “Telling the Old Old Story” — beautifully illustrated courting couple in period dress. Unused divided-back card with embossed detail.
* “Don’t Be Startled / Have No Fear / You’ll Not Be Harmed / While I Am Near” — humorous photographic romance/courtship card with decorative border. Posted from Dubuque, Iowa, May 18, 1909.
* Romantic couple beside Christmas tree — elaborate color illustration of elegantly dressed couple, marked A.M.B. No. 1109 on front. Posted 1909; back marked Made in Germany, with publisher/series emblem and No. 122.
* Kissing couple / “The society up here is out of sight.” — humorous romantic outdoor scene. Unused; divided back.
* “Love Lightens Labor” — courting couple leaning over a boat, with the gentleman kissing the woman. Unused divided-back card, numbered 828.
* “Wanted—The Right Kind of a Typewriter” — humorous office romance scene showing a gentleman seated at a typewriter with fashionably dressed woman. Posted with handwritten message and stamp.
* Restaurant/café courtship scene — “My wife won’t let me—” — wonderful comic romantic card depicting a fashionable couple and waitress in an elaborate restaurant interior. Marked Th. E. L. Theochrom-Serie No. 1210/55, Printed in Germany. Posted 1912. Comparable Theochrom cards are generally identified as German printed lithographic postcards of the divided-back era. ConditionGood antique condition overall with expected age-related wear. Cards show varying degrees of corner and edge wear, toning/age discoloration, light surface wear and occasional spotting or soiling. Several have period handwriting, postmarks and original postage stamps; others are unused. Some cards have light bends/creases or minor edge imperfections consistent with postcards more than 100 years old.The “Telling the Old Old Story” card appears especially clean and bright, while several of the posted cards show more noticeable toning and handling wear.
